THE third annual Wharf4Ward fundraising event - a Sony Foundation initiative which supports young Australians with cancer - lay claim to the Woolloomooloo Wharf yesterday as Sony and a handful of the city's most iconic restaurants joined forces to raise $500,000.

Celebrity brides-to-be Natalie Bassingthwaighte on the arm of fiance Cameron McGlinchy, and Jodi Gordon with her fiance Braith Anasta, were among the A-list crowd who attended the long lunch, catered for by Otto, Manta, China Doll, Kingsley's, Aki's and the Blue Hotel.

Performing a song from her new album, Bassingthwaighte joined Mark Vincent, Stan Walker, X Factor contestants and Tim Freedman on a pontoon to provide the entertainment.

MCs including Peter Overton and Natalie Gruzlewski, David Koch and Andrew O'Keefe and Sam Armytage officiated as celebrities lunched and mingled - and of course donated.

The mail is Bassingthwaighte will tie the knot to her Rogue Traders drummer partner in early December while Gordon and Roosters star Anasta are yet to set a date.

Other notables at the lunch included Sony chairman Denis Handlin, Ronan Keating, Melissa Doyle and cricketing legend Dennis Lillee, who, along with Michael Clarke's agent-manager Chris White and a handful of others, is a governor on the board of the foundation.

The appearance of Ten newsreader Natarsha Belling on stage with new recruit Andrew Rochford prompted speculation she may be being tested to co-host the new breakfast show with Rochford in the new year.

FORGET the rubber chicken. Wharf4Ward is how Sydney does a great charity lunch - close off the Woolloomooloo Wharf on Thursday and have the big end of town come out to lunch at the top restaurants.

It's all a credit to Sony chairman Denis Handlin whose passion is the Sony Foundation, which is raising funds for You Can - a charity that builds youth cancer wards.

With Sony acts including Stan Walker, Mark Vincent and The

X Factor gang playing on a pontoon and with Domaine Chandon flowing, it's little wonder every one was in such an ebullient mood.

With a fab Rocking Angel Bourbon after-party at Blue's Water Bar, a whopping $550,000 was raised by the jolly gang, which included Melissa Doyle, David Koch, Natalie Gruzlewski, Charlotte Dawson, Ronan Keating Jodi Gordon and Braith Anasta.

This was definitely the charity event of the year.

On Thursday, 13 October 2011, Sony Foundation Australia took over the full line-up of restaurants at Sydney’s Woolloomooloo Wharf to host 800 guests for a lunchtime fundraising extravaganza: Wharf4Ward. The star-studded event raised a staggering $550,000 for Sony Foundation’s charity campaign - ‘You Can’ – to build specialised youth cancer wards across Australia.

Sony Music artists including Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Mark Vincent, Stan Walker and Tim Freedman rocked the wharf and guests were also treated to a special performance from the X Factor finalists.

The event was hosted by supporters from each major network: Channel Seven’s Samantha Armytage and Andrew O’Keefe, Nine Network’s Peter Overton and Natalie Gruzlewski, and Network Ten’s Natarsha Belling and Dr Andrew Rochford. The Live Auction was hosted by a charismatic David Koch.

Other noted guests included Jodi Gordon and Braith Anasta, Ronan Keating, Melissa Doyle, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Dennis Lillee, Nikki Phillips, Charlotte Dawson, Tom Williams, Lizzy Lovette, Danny Clayton and Steve Waugh.

Sophie Ryan, Chief Executive Officer, Sony Foundation Australia, said “ Wharf4Ward was more than just a fabulous day of food and entertainment, most importantly the 800 guests in attendance helped raise a staggering $550,000 for Sony Foundation’s ‘You Can’ campaign to help young Australians survive cancer. Wharf4Ward is a music business charity raising funds to build cancer wards for kids across Australia and with a turn out of 800 at 10 top restaurants today nearly half a million dollars was added to the kitty.It was also a chance to check out the current X Factor finalists who all attended .Entertainment was provided by Sony Music artists, including platinum-selling Kate Miller-Heidke, Guy Sebastian, 2009 Australian Idol's Stan Walker and 2010 Australia’s Got Talent winners Justice Crew.Amongst the guests- Ricky and Rianna Ponting, Geoff Huegill, Eamon Sullivan, Natalie Gruzlewski, Richard Wilkins, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Angela Bishop, Melissa Doyle, David Koch, Natarsha Belling, Samantha Armytage and Larry Emdur. Plus teen sailor Jessica Watson and cricket great Dennis Lillee.



Every one can also get involved with Sony's You Can campaign without donating a single dollar. There are over 20 million old mobile phones lying in bottom drawers across the country - the You Can campaign calls on all Australians to recycle these. Sony Foundation has partnered with an international recycling company to swap old mobile phones for cash

Sydney stars come out in force for Sony Foundation's Youth Cancer campaign; Wharf4Ward raises money for cancer...

More than 800 guests attended the Wharf4Ward lunch today to raise much needed money for 'You Can', a national fundraising and awareness campaign set up by Sony Foundation and CanTeen to raise much-needed funds for specialised youth cancer care and services around the country.

Fresh off the plane from London, the fabulous Sapphires star Jessica Mauboy will be joining in the festivities and performed in front of the who's who of Sydney society down at Woolloomooloo Wharf and its six world-class restaurants.

The lunch raises money for You Can, a national fundraising and awareness campaign set up by Sony Foundation and CanTeen to raise much-needed funds for specialised youth cancer care and services around the country.

Guests enjoyed a spectacular afternoon of entertainment from national and international Sony music artists including Jessica Mauboy, Hot Chelle Rae, Justice Crew, and Timomatic, as well as a performance from the X Factor finalists.

A range of hosts from each major network, which all support Sony Foundation as corporate partners, was involved in the lunch. Nine Network's Peter Overton, Georgie Gardner and Richard Wilkins and Network Ten's Natarsha Belling and Hamish McDonald tooks part in day.

The guest list included Ronan Keating, Charlotte Dawson, Laura Dundovic, James Kerley, Kerri-Ann Kennerly, Nikki Phillips, Didier Cohen and Karl Stefanovic.
