One night to change lives.

The Dubai International Film Festival and IWC Schaffhausen will host a gala dinner and charity event under the patronage of UN Messenger of Peace HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, during the 8th edition of the Festival, with all profits going to Dubai Cares and global development and aid agency, Oxfam. Money raised will benefit communities and individuals around the world, including the Middle East, Asia and Africa. The black-tie charity evening will be held on December 10, 2011, at the Armani Hotel in Dubai.

However, AmfAR - The American Foudation Aids Research - is not making a comeback this year. Instead Diff has teamed up with swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen to host a charity gala on December 10. The dinner is being held in aid UAE-based Dubai Cares and international aid agency Oxfam. The ‘One Night To Change Lives’ black-tie event will take place at the Armani Dubai Hotel.

Celebrities to donate time, skills and personal items to charity gala in Dubai

Dubai: The celebrities are in town for the Dubai International Film Festival - in more ways than one. 

While the shining stars of cinema will hit the red carpet from Tuesday night to celebrate the best of the silver screen, others will be donating their time, skills or personal items to support some of the world's neediest people at a ticketed charity gala alongside the festival The One Night to Change Lives, gala, hosted by DIFF and luxury Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen.
 
The gala will benefit Oxfam and Dubai Cares on Saturday and will see ex-Boyzone singer Ronan Keating, former supermodel Helena Christiansen and Bollywood actor Rahul Bose joining Dubai's most generous at a glittering auction, the proceeds of which go to the global development agency Oxfam

While Keating will perform at the event Danish model Christiansen, now famous as a fashion photographer, is a celebrity ambassador for the British charity, which has projects across the region, in countries from Palestine to Afghanistan and Somalia.
 
However Oxfam celebrity ambassadors who are not in attendance at the festival this year will also participate, by donating items to the charity auction. Scarlett Johanssen - who recently travelled to Dadaab, Kenya, the largest refugee camp in the world, with Oxfam - has donated two tickets to the world premiere of her film The Avengers, which includes an opportunity to meet the actress at the premiere.

Stars turn out for Dubai event

A huge charity event is set to take place in Dubai, to coincide with the International Film Festival.

People taking flights to Dubai soon could be lucky enough to spot some famous faces as they attend a charity gala event.

Organised to coincide with the Dubai International Film Festival which is currently taking place in the emirate, The One Night to Change Lives gala is being co-hosted by the Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen.

Charities Oxfam and Dubai Cares will be benefitting from all funds raised, with celebrity prizes up for grabs, including tickets to the world premiere of the new Avengers film and a chance to meet its star Scarlett Johansson.

Hosted by Ronan Keating, Helena Christiansen and Bollywood actor Rahul Bose, the event will also offer the chance to adopt a school in Pakistan, which will guarantee the education of 200 girls.

Some of the people planning to take flights to Dubai to attend the event could be among those who plan to use the new baggage delivery service which has been introduced by Emirates.

Former Boyzone frontman Ronan Keating has left the boyband image behind him. Alongside his performance at the Oxfam charity gala, he talks about evolving, overcoming adversity and noble causes



Former Boyzone singer Ronan Keating admits to having done some stupid things in his life. But as he gazed into the blue sea from the balcony of his plush suite at Dubai's Al Qasr hotel, it's his recent swim in the Irish Sea that sprang to mind.
"It was ridiculous. It was a stupid idea — 56 miles (90.12 kilometres). I just hated it," Keating said with an involuntary shiver.
The Irish sensation, who burst into pop consciousness in 1994 with his epochal band Boyzone and followed it up with a smash solo career, took up the celebrity swim-relay challenge to raise funds for cancer research. Joining him in his mission were Olympic medallist swimmer Steve Parry, TV presenters Jenny Frost and Jason Bradbury, and Strictly Come Dancing star Pamela Stephenson. 
"We did it in 36 hours and it was hard work. I am not a fan of being in the sea. I like being in a boat — sailing. There was jelly fish of this size," he spreads his arms wide for better effect, "and it could severely sting. A certain shark is in there too. They play tricks on your mind when you are swimming," said Keating, who is close to the cause having lost his mother to cancer.

But his stoic-yet-scary mission paid rich dividends and he's already on his next cause. It's not as daring as swimming with sharks, but the 34-year-old Irish singer was the highlight of Saturday's glittering charity gala, hosted by Dubai International Film Festival and luxury Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen, to benefit Oxfam and Dubai Cares.
"IWC is one of the brands that I am a friend of. I am hosting an event for them, will sing a few songs... I am being the voice for people who don't have one."
