POPSTAR Ronan Keating made it a day to remember for young patients at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin yesterday, writes Ken Sweeney.
The big-hearted popstar sang carols with more than a dozen actors, sports and media stars, models and socialites, after they toured wards.
Now in its sixth year, the annual visit, is organised by Ronan Keating's brother, Gary Keating, and his wife, Valerie, to give seriously ill children and their families a lift at Christmas.
TV presenter Kathryn Thomas, Brendan O'Connor, and Brian Ormond, rugby commentator Brent Pope, model Pippa O'Connor, and magician Keith Barry were among the well-known faces visiting the hospital.
Comedian Brendan O'Carroll, who flew in from Florida yesterday, arranges his Christmas holidays each year in order to take part in the goodwill visit.
"Having a child with a serious illness puts a lot of strain on families, particularly at this time of year.
"That is why we try to have some fun in the hospital coming up to Christmas," Gary Keating told the Irish Independent.
Meanwhile, RTE's Ryan Tubridy bade farewell to his beloved reindeer jumper which he donated in support of Barnardos' Christmas Jumper Day, sponsored by One4all, which takes place on Wednesday.
To mark Christmas Jumper Day, people are being encouraged to raid their festive wardrobes or get creative by decorating their favourite jumpers to raise much-needed funds for Barnardos.
In the lead-up to the big day, One4all will donate €1 to Barnardos for every person who uploads a Christmas jumper photo of themselves, their family, friends or pets via the One4all facebook page.
