Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern's cufflinks attracted interest from across the Atlantic last night when a
mystery bidder in New York paid €850 for them in a charity auction in Dublin.
The cufflinks were estimated to be worth between €500 and €1,000, while another two bidders were
interested in his gold-plated tie pin at the auction.
It sold for just €140, although it was estimated to be worth twice that.
Mr Ahern was just one of Ireland's best-known personalities who donated items to help raises funds for a
Jewels for Cures event to raise money for cancer research.
Ronan Keating donated a silver dragon bracelet to the auction (it went for €200) on the night at the Westbury Hotel in Dublin.
